The lighting for the Gourmet Pavilion in Wynn Palace Cotai had to be as grand and impressive as the exquisite food, theatrical architecture and luxurious finishes while providing a welcoming and comforting ambiance to relax, socialise and indulge in some of Asia’s most vibrant flavours.
Entering the pavilion through Restaurant Row, you are greeted and surrounded by the first of many bespoke decorative lights precisely detailed and developed through rounds of lighting trials and material tests. Architecture and decorative lighting merge seamlessly as opulent illuminated glass archways draw you through the space. Delicately crafted amber backlit glass glows with warm, heritage-inspired light, creating a truly breathtaking first impression. A sequence of gateways welcomes you in, gently setting the scene for the experience that awaits beyond.
In each rotunda along Restaurant Row, a striking decorative chandelier takes centre stage—designed in close collaboration with mock-ups by lighting consultant, interior designer and specialist chandelier manufacturer. Suspended within a layered coffer, softly illuminated by concealed, custom-tuned diffused 2300K linear LED, the chandelier’s fluted glass tubes and Holophane ceiling-mounted lamps add a sense of glamour and radiance, with 2200K Zico lamps. Throughout the project, it was essential that every decorative light contributed to the same balanced colour temperature and warm ambience.
Along the perimeter of Restaurant Row, arched tiled walls and glass portals invite guests into the four specialty restaurants. While the lighting design approach remains consistent, each space reveals its own personality through a distinct colour palette, a signature central decorative feature light, and a theatrical food counter.
Ambient illumination comes from a warm wash of light concealed behind the banquette seating and within ceiling slots that graze the perimeter walls, while narrow-beam, low-glare recessed downlights bring focus to the centre of each table.
Each restaurant’s identity is further expressed through a unique decorative pendant suspended within the central coffer, visible from every seat and from Restaurant Row itself. This focal piece is complemented by decorative wall lamps lining the banquettes, while illuminated food displays and the presence of working chefs add an extra layer of drama and energy to the space.
Within the two vast Gourmet Pavilions, lighting brings interest to every surface and finish. It was essential that the scheme felt layered and fully integrated, with varied scales and styles creating remarkable vistas and a sense of spectacle, while still maintaining a relaxed, cosy, and inviting atmosphere. Numerous low-level, small-scale decorative luminaires – bespoke in their design – provide soft, warm light for diners, adding charm and ensuring the spaces feel intimate despite the high ceilings, expressive chandeliers, and grand, luxurious finishes.
At the heart of each pavilion, the ceiling is backlit evoking the feeling of natural, diffused daylight. Suspended beneath it, a large, elegant glass decorative chandelier – designed by the team with emphasis on grandeur, quality materials, scale and maintainability. With minimal integrated lighting, its ribbed glass layers gently capture and reflect the surrounding warm decorative light fixtures, becoming the focal point that brings the entire space together.
