THE AWARDS

The [d]arc awards is a unique concept utilising arc and darc magazines’ reputation as being the most widely read and respected lighting design publications in the world. In collaboration with creative consultants Light Collective, we have created a unique opportunity to get every practice involved in the awards process.

Anyone can enter (lighting designers, architects, interior designers or manufacturers), but here’s the exciting bit – once the shortlist has been chosen by an international jury of independent architectural lighting designers, each of the 1,400+ lighting design practices and their designers will be invited to vote on their favourite projects making this the only truly peer-to-peer lighting design awards in the world.

All the projects and the companies who have submitted them will be present on the website so that, over time, the [d]arc awards website becomes a comprehensive online lighting design resource that can be used by designers and clients alike for inspiration.

All winners will be announced at the [d]arc night party the 05 December in London.

“It was a really great evening. Everyone I spoke to said there was a real buzz about the whole event. You certainly shifted the paradigm!”

KIT

[d]arc awards has formalised a list of categories that is a reality check to the other award ceremonies!

Structures, PlacesSpaces and Art are project categories which are split into Low and High budget so that smaller projects can compete on a level playing field in every category rather than enter the dreaded ‘Special Project’ category. 2019 sees the addition of the ART Bespoke category which opens the door for more decorative lighting projects to be included.

Event refers to any temporary event or temporary collection of installations where the main medium of expression is light (such as festivals of light, workshops or guerrilla lighting events).

Kit is for products and these are split into three categories – Interior Architectural Luminaires, Exterior Architectural Luminaires, and Decorative Luminaires.

“I just wanted to congratulate you on the [d]arc awards last night! The chilled, cool atmosphere is where awards should be.”

THE EVENING

Following the peer-to-peer voting process the awards ceremony will take place as part of [d]arc night where we reveal all the winners. It will take place at MC Motors, an Aladdins Cave of props and surprising spaces, in Dalston, London on 05 December 2019.

[d]arc night will be an atmospheric party in a unique venue in London. A series of exclusive light installations from collaborations between manufacturer partners and lighting designers will create inspirational interest.

Imagine light art, street food, lighting installations… this breaks all the awards rules and what’s more, there’s a free bar!

Any independent architectural lighting designer or light artist that votes in the [d]arc awards  is entitled to come to [d]arc night free of charge! But beware tickets are limited and available on a strictly first-come first-serve basis, so get your votes in quickly to avoid disappointment!
Suppliers can buy tickets for £500 each (£400 if you have entered a product or project into the [d]arc awards).
