Women’s Pavilion

A journey on women’s impact to creating a better world.

For the first time since 1900, Dubai Expo 2020 is the first world exposition to have a pavilion dedicated to women. Taking place in Dubai from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region – Expo 2020 Dubai promises to celebrate women changemakers around the world.

Goals:

  • Understand the positive impact women make on the world and the challenges they still face.
  • Worldwide initiatives and solutions by women and their ripple effect to create a better world.
  • A space for meaningful discussions supporting women’s vision and contributions to shaping society.

The façade of the Women’s pavilion is the work of a collective of artists with diverse backgrounds coming together to create a meaningful and powerful statement.

Architect Laura Gonzalez designed the façade panels, inspired by the traditional mashrabiya motif of the region.

By night, the façade is brought to life with a brilliant light show, designed by Pauline David.
Iconic artist eL Seed animates the lower part of the façade with an ode to women composed of vivid colours and poetry, while Emirati graphic designer Kholoud Sharafi translates the unique collaboration between Expo 2020 Dubai and Cartier through the Women’s Pavilion logo.

This journey into new perspectives starts with this façade, a true statement to our mission to express women’s visions of the world and shine a light on their contributions.”

Light show : every night at 7pm, every 30min

At sunset, the facade comes to life, reflecting the passing of time.

Clouds of light are moving, pushed by the wind.

Their intensity evolves calmly, breathing in, breathing out.

It is time to contemplate, to understand, to exchange.

The curtain opens on new perspectives, the clouds seem to be clearing out.

Large birds appear and dive into the Pavilion. We then discover an elegant murmuring, a swirling and twirling choreography. It represents the union of Women and Men from all over the world gathered today at the Women’s Pavilion for the World Expo to “Connect minds and build the future.”

As the sun passes, a new day dawns. The moon then reveals itself in the wake of a billion stars. It’s a tribute to the women leaders who have marked history, an image of women from all over the world working today for the blossoming future generations.

Together, let’s shine stronger.
