Time Out Market Bahrain offers a multifaceted dining experience, through a curated mix of the city’s award-winning chefs and up-and-coming restaurateurs.

Nulty’s lighting design for the new Bahrain site was steered by Time Out Market’s strong brand identity. The team focused on achieving the warm and convivial ambience for which the market is renowned, then used layers of light to improve permeability and draw the eye through the space to key focal points.

The scheme employs the principles of ambient, accent and feature lighting design to establish a clear visual hierarchy across the market. Vertical surfaces were illuminated to give prominence to certain areas, while strong lines of light were used to highlight the architectural details and promote a sense of discovery and intrigue. Brightly illuminated spaces produce an energetic atmosphere across the food zones and bars, and softer lighting prevails in the relaxed seating areas and on the exterior terrace to evoke a calmer tone.

Time Out’s logos, restaurant signage, menu boards, and display shelves were accentuated as primary visual elements to help visitors orient themselves and make informed choices about where to eat and drink. The communal eating zones were then illuminated as secondary visual elements to foster a sense of social connection and encourage interaction.

As daylight filters through the central skylight in the market throughout the day, the team carefully balanced natural and artificial light levels to maintain a consistent quality of light.
