The luxurious Regent Hong Kong hotel is home to 497 stunning guestrooms overlooking its striking location on Victoria Harbour, placing it at the cultural centre of Hong Kong, surrounded by landmarks such as the K11 MUSEA shopping centre and the Avenue of Stars. Guests can dine at six culinary venues, from Michelin-starred restaurants to decadent lounges with harbour views.

Renowned designer and architect Chi Wing Lo has brought the hotel’s vision to life through his unique design, reimagining areas including the Porte Cochère, lobby, lobby lounge, business lounge, lift lobbies and all guest rooms and suites. Chi Wing’s design is elegant and understated, timeless, and emulates exceptional attention to details.

Tino Kwan Lighting Consultants were appointed to create a lighting design to reflect the interior design, illuminated with architectural lighting fixtures from formalighting.

The vision for the hotel was to provide a sanctuary to escape the bustling metropolis into a haven of peace and serenity.

This sense of relaxation is promoted as soon as guests arrive, showcased by the 18 golden domes which illuminate the Porte Cochère, while the stunning glass brick column lights act as open arms standing at the entrance lobby and create the illusion of green trees within the interior.

Upon entering the lobby, guests are transfixed by the dazzling passageway. 16 vertical glass brick screens resemble floor-to-ceiling chandeliers, creating a mesmerising display inspired by Chinese “LiuLi” glass art.

The check-in counter is made of softly lit onyx, set in front of a 15-meter-long digital art LED screen showcasing a film “Nourish” created by Hong Kong new media artist Hung Keung. The warm back-lit stone front desk stands in contrast in front of the dark electronic art wall, giving a strong impression to all guests.

The Lobby Lounge offers awe-inspiring views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong Island skyline. As day turns to night, the luminaires glowing above tabletops reflect the shimmering reflections of the harbour, enhancing this intimate setting and enveloping guests in the transformative design.

The lighting designers considered the amount of daylight coming into the lobby and lobby lounge, utilising tuneable white technology for the back-lit ceiling panels to provide brighter lighting during the day and warmer, more intimate lighting during the evening, giving both spaces a completely different feel depending on when the guests are coming into the hotel. The lighting design has also cleverly considered ways to minimise reflections on the window that will interfere with the sea view, reducing glare for guests and allowing them a clear and captivating view of the harbour.

The lighting design has been a key tool in creating the relaxing ambience of the hotel, enhancing guest experience and promoting rest and relaxation. Using a mix of indirect, backlit and accent lighting carefully planned out in the guest rooms and suites, the lighting brings out the understated elegance of the interior without distracting from the beauty of the harbour view of Hong Kong.
