A Subtle Metamorphosis of Light: Silence in Motion

The light installation “sparkle” narrates an abstract interpretation of nature. It explores fascinating contrasts—the duality of stillness and motion, the fleeting beauty of the moment, and the profound power of light.

Delicately woven lines of light, seemingly weightless and suspended from the ceiling like shimmering icicles, draw inspiration from nature’s imagery. These lines transform into a dynamic interplay of light and time, appearing both transient and timeless.

The choice of colour palette is intentional: subtle transitions between cool blues and warm glows evoke vivid internal imagery—perhaps of the blue hour by a glowing fire. The programmed dynamics of the light sources highlight individual points of light, radiating like sparkling stars.

This delicate interplay creates a tension between the installation’s technical precision and its organic, nature-inspired aesthetic. The rhythm of the light—sometimes pulsing, sometimes flashing—resembles a silent dance. These movements generate an almost meditative atmosphere, filling the space and inviting viewers to reflect in silence. Through this kinetic energy, the static environment comes to life, as if it were gently breathing and blending with its surroundings.

In dialogue with the building’s architecture, the installation gains an added dimension. The historical features of the façade, with its map and reliefs of historic Palestine, serve as a dramatic backdrop. The light installation seems to integrate harmoniously while simultaneously acting as a fragile disturbance in time—a quiet reminder of the transience of the moment. This interplay captures the present poetically—a fleeting yet powerful experience.

Nestled within the 1950s building designed by Felix Schmid, the installation interacts subtly yet profoundly with its environment. The structure itself becomes an extension of the artwork, its clean lines and mid-century elegance complementing the luminous forms. Inside the building, two remarkable exhibitions further enrich the experience. On one level, a nativity scene spanning 80 square meters showcases 470 meticulously crafted figures, narrating humanity’s connection to tradition and storytelling. Below, a breathtaking gemstone collection in the basement celebrates the wonders of nature’s raw beauty, offering a vivid contrast to the intricately human expressions above.

This confluence of art, nature, and humanity turns the space into a living dialogue—a place where light connects earth’s minerals to human creativity, and where fleeting moments are grounded in timeless narratives. Together, the installation and exhibitions merge into an evocative reflection of life’s delicate balance, inviting viewers to contemplate the profound harmony of the natural and the human in one extraordinary setting.
