Sentosa Sensoryscape redefines conventional park design by seamlessly integrating nature, architecture, and technology to offer a unique, multi-sensory experience along Sentosa Island’s main artery. This two-tiered walkway connects attractions in the north to the beaches in the south, bridging the island’s ridgeline to the reef.

Sensoryscape is a canvas where uniquely designed spaces, set amidst lush landscapes, and ‘phygital’ experiences awaken the 6th sense of imagination. Guests are led through the walk with a ‘ridge-to-reef’ narrative, offering contemplative moments. The upper walkway offers panoramic views, while the lower walkway, adorned with playful ‘hammock’ seats, leads to six sensory gardens. Three of these gardens are parametrically designed as woven vessels, showcasing tactile plants, scented flora, and polyphonic water fountains, creating a heightened sensory experience and appreciation of nature.

At night, Sensoryscape transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle through two layers of subtle ambient lighting seamlessly integrated with the interactive digital light art (by others) that augmented reality-enhanced ‘ImagiNite.’

In the north, enigmatic coloured fog and dancing sky beams at the ‘Lookout Loop’ beckon guests from afar, ushering them towards the three bespoke vessels – ‘Tactile Trellis’, ‘Scented Sphere’ and ‘Symphony Streams’. A side path then whizzes one into the playful food web projections at ‘Palate Playground’ and the southernmost ‘Glow Garden’, where customized self-illuminating flower stalks integrated with RGB color-changing ‘dance’ rhythmically, programmed with scenes to express the different seasons and for special events changing hues amidst the coastal night breeze. The beauty of the night is echoed as soft light intertwines with nature, teases and surprises guests in the fusion with augmented reality and the surroundings, indulging one in a world of imagination.

The most significant achievement of the design was preserving the leisure island’s natural environment while enhancing its entertainment value. The seamless synchronization of the two lighting systems controlling the architectural and digital lighting layers was achieved by meticulous technical coordination. A DMX gateway serves as the interface between the two control systems, transforming the lighting at 20-minute intervals. DALI is implemented in most architectural lighting to allow high flexibility and smooth dimming.

The selection of fixtures is crucial, as they have to be suitable for the site context. Marine-grade fixtures are specified for durability in coastal conditions. Light fixtures are strategically placed to optimize glare control and accessibility for maintenance.

As the inaugural project of Singapore’s Greater Sentosa Master Plan, Sensoryscape is a new landmark that offers visitors a memorable journey of discovery. The nature-inspired lighting design enhances the experience, creating an engaging and captivating atmosphere that draws visitors and contributes to the evolution of Sentosa as a premier global leisure and tourism destination.
