Royal Nawaab Pyramid is a complete lighting transformation of the Stockport Pyramid, designed to merge contemporary hospitality design with the cultural richness of Indian and Pakistani heritage. Chantelle Lighting worked closely with the client and the design team, led by Jason West at WDC Creative, from concept through installation, delivering a bespoke lighting package created specifically for this landmark project. WDC Creative recommended Chantelle Lighting for our expertise in handcrafted, custom-made lighting solutions, establishing the foundations for a highly collaborative process.
Our teams played a key role in the development, manufacture, delivery and installation of multiple bespoke lighting pieces, from refined wall lights and elegant over-bar pendants to large-scale feature fittings anchoring the walkways and staircases. Every element required precision to ensure the lighting aligned with the design brief and supported the building’s reinvention into a high-end dining destination. Transforming such an iconic structure demanded lighting that enhanced functionality and identity, and our commitment to craftsmanship ensured each piece contributed meaningfully to the building’s character.
A defining element of the project was the client’s commitment to using local suppliers and his direct involvement in shaping the lighting. The owner, Mahboob Hussain, visited the Chantelle Lighting factory throughout development, where we presented prototypes, metal finishes, glass samples and fully assembled feature models. These sessions allowed the client team to review, handle and refine each detail, ensuring the pieces aligned with their vision and authentically referenced South Asian influences. This partnership shaped the aesthetic direction and ensured accuracy in the final output.
The Pyramid’s architecture demanded a considered technical approach. Working closely with WDC Creative, Chantelle Lighting designed bespoke pieces featuring warm dimming technology and handcrafted components to soften the building’s geometric structure. Brass accents, textured glass and patterned detailing introduced cultural cues while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.
On the restaurant level, the lighting strategy focused on zoning and guest comfort. We created a family of pendants and wall fixtures incorporating jaali-inspired metalwork, opal diffusers and brushed gold accents. These fittings provide ambient illumination while adding decorative detail. Task and accent lighting in the theatre kitchen offers precise colour rendering to support food presentation while maintaining continuity with the decorative scheme.
The banquet suites required high-impact statements. The primary chandelier for the main hall was developed as a sculptural centrepiece comprising hundreds of hand-shaped glass petals mounted on a branching frame. Prototype rounds were reviewed by the owner during factory visits to ensure the final design reflected the floral symbolism found in South Asian celebrations. Additional bespoke wall and ceiling fixtures were produced to maintain continuity across the suites.
Integration was a significant technical undertaking, with bespoke fixtures coordinated with architectural details, AV systems and HVAC requirements. Chantelle Lighting worked onsite with contractors and WDC Creative to ensure meticulous installation across all spaces.
Royal Nawaab Pyramid demonstrates how contemporary lighting design can celebrate cultural heritage while delivering technical excellence.
