Power of Values on Motherland Monument, Ukraine

What we stand for is what we fight for. With this slogan in mind, we created a large-scale light media art installation called “The Power of Values,” which illuminated the Motherland Monument and became the culmination of the Brand Ukraine International Conference — the main annual event that shapes Ukraine’s image in the world.

The installation was presented to conference participants, including representatives of NATO and the international community. They watched the spectacle with bated breath, confirming that Ukrainian creativity has the power to speak to the whole world. Despite the conditions of war and security restrictions, our creativity goes far beyond the borders of the country.

The task of the lighting design was to transform the monument into a living symbol of Ukrainian values — Freedom. Resilience. Unity. Love. Justice. We created a light narrative: from tense darkness and flickering “alarming” accents to the unfolding of gradients that gradually transition into powerful light streams, emphasizing the silhouette of the figure and the shield. Through color, rhythm, and composition, we visualized each of the values in the language of art.

The lighting scenario took into account the scale of the monument, the relief of the sculpture, and the distance to the viewer. The main volume, accents on the face, hands, and shield, as well as the background around them, created depth and drama.

This is the first large-scale work on a sculpture of this level, where we combined 3D graphics with the effect of depth on the mirror surface of the sculpture and laser graphics in the sky above the sculpture for the first time. This technological symbiosis enhanced the hologram effect, allowing us to “raise” our symbols above the city.

The project was implemented with time, logistics, and security constraints, which required precise optics and programming.

Statement of Impact: The installation provided viewers with a unique emotional experience, highlighted Ukrainian values, and contributed to the formation of a positive international image of Ukraine. The lighting design created a sense of unity, inspiration, and resilience that resonated with both the local community and international observers, demonstrating that Ukrainian creativity can inspire and unite the world.
