The Marissa holiday resort is located in Lembruch; the small German community lies by the Lake Duemmer in the rural District of Diepholz in Lower Saxony. It was completed in 2022 and offers accommodation in both apartments and holiday homes. Events and conferences with up to 300 people can be held in the large atrium of the multifunctional building and the PLAZA, the square area in front of it.

THE TASK

The clients wanted a special lighting concept for the PLAZA to guarantee a high quality of stay on the largest square in the holiday resort both for events in the main building and generally for all holiday guests.

THE CONCEPT

Light creates connections. Lines of light distributed across the entire PLAZA flow into the inner wall surfaces of the atrium, merging the outside space with the main building to create a holistic space.

The floor light lines at the PLAZA and the light lines integrated into the walls in the atrium are distributed irregularly in a defined grid and results in a dynamic impression even with static light. Each board of the light lines is equipped with RGB-W LEDs and individually addressable. Thus 2,004 separately controllable “light points” are available for dynamic light sequences.

This light ensemble is complemented by the under-lit monumental 30m long bench and a 6m large round platform, which together give the PLAZA a spatial separation between the event and traffic areas.

Some asymmetrically emitting light bollards, cleverly hidden in the planting areas of the PLAZA, ensure constant, minimal basic lighting on the access routes to the building. This creates a “playable” situation that provides an attractive and surprising light installation for visitors of all ages and significantly increases the quality of the stay.

During the evening hours, the viewer enjoys gentle basic lighting with pleasant white light and subtle light movements. Every half hour, color-dynamic light sequences are played using a random generator, which were thematically developed for the holiday park. There are scenes with water movements in the ground and sun courses in the atrium or “catch games” with light points for the children. Various light sequences are also planned for events or the Christmas season, which temporarily interrupt the automated annual sequence. During these light sequences, the underlighting of the benches is dimmed to increase the attention of visitors and to enhance the light experience.

At customer events in the atrium or on the PLAZA, the company colors can be set in the wall and floor light lines to represent the corporate design of the respective company.

Thanks to this holistic lighting design, the PLAZA always invites you to linger: whether in winter for a short break during a walk or in summer in the outdoor dining area of the Irish pub for a drink.
