Archer Humphryes Architects selected Applelec LED Light Sheet in RGB LED option to deliver a striking illuminated ceiling feature within the newly created store at Penderyn Distillery Wales.
Dating back to 1810, the site’s core Grade I listed building has been sympathetically reconstructed and repurposed to now house the Penderyn Distillery, where the new facilities are expected to welcome over 80,000 visitors a year for distiller tours and tasting events.
As part of the regeneration project is the newly created Penderyn Distillery shop, which centres around a large kiln structure. Emitting illumination from the kiln’s centre, the warm glow of light invites visitors into the space where they are greeted with a striking, illuminated ceiling feature. Lit with Applelec LED Light Sheet, the light panel was specified at a vast 2930mm diameter and created in a circular shape to precisely mirror the round structure of the kiln.
Requiring complex manufacture, Applelec LED Light Sheet was engineered with a series of circular apertures to enable empty bottles to slot into the openings to create a unique and modern chandelier esque light installation. Specified in RGB LED option, the light panel was programmed to display an amber-reddish hue, creating the impression the hung bottles are filled with Penderyn whisky.
Factoring in the light fixture’s surroundings, Archer Humphryes Architects used Applelec LED Light Sheet without a diffuser, where the light panel’s visible grid pattern helped to tie in with the industrial aesthetics of the space.
