Pangolin Trail is a new extension of the Creature of the Night trail at the Night Safari, Singapore. On this trail, exhibited native species of nocturnal animals. Working closely with the client team, understanding the needs of letting the visitors see the nocturnal animals and yet, keeping a dark environment to allow adaption to take place for both humans and animals. Inspired by moonlight, the exhibits were bathed in specific colour temperature, simulating the bathing of moonlight. Preset lighting control system was deployed to create different lighting scenes, to encourage movement of the nocturnal animals. The sheltered walkway was also designed using high colour rendering spectrum and glareless RGBW spotlights, to control the minimal lighting in the dark environment. Quality of light and colour and also considering the naturalness of the mixing of colours and reducing the multi-coloured shadows from the RGBW fittings. Studies of gobo patterns were done, to create more natural shadows in the wild.

The project presented unique challenges, including customizing fixture colors to blend with the natural surroundings and ensuring durability against potential vandalism from curious animals, such as monkeys. The team successfully integrated the lighting controls with other luminaires to achieve the desired effects envisioned. Luminaires were strategically placed across the Pangolin Trail to achieve the desired illumination while maintaining the delicate balance of light and shadow critical for nocturnal species. It was important to create a balance in such low levels of lighting to give visitors the opportunity to observe the animals behaving as they would in their natural habitats
