VISO worked in collaboration with AvroKO to design-engineer and fabricate custom lighting for this Michelin-starred restaurant in the Flatiron District in New York. Oiji Mi is owned by executive chef Brian Kim and needed a unique lighting package that would showcase exquisite craftmanship and textures inspired by Korean culture.

Custom work for this package included lighting that required filigreed artistic style, unique materials, and technical skill which VISO is perfectly matched to successfully deliver on. As well, this project needed the right partner to understand the design intent thoroughly to be able to translate this into tangible light fixtures.

Some challenges arose when dealing with resin. Though resin is a durable material, it can be equally delicate. Extreme care and expertise was essential to complete this project. Furthermore, fine detailing is found throughout the lighting package, ensuring proper representation of the inspiration.

The feature light installation is found in the centre of the restaurant, around the main column. This showcases arms that arch beautifully over guests, suspending a frosted shade with off-white linen and matte resin accents.

As part of the lighting package, the custom floor lamps are inspired by the dainty, detailed Korean hair pins. They stand at 80.56″ tall and feature a matte opal linear textured glass diffuser. Accented by a gold metal finish, one of VISO’s proprietary mentals, this light fixture exuberates a clean elegance. Also found, are custom pendants that are suspended througout the dining space, featuring beautiful detailing. Unique elements that required special attention and specifications were fabricated by VISO, from the knot accent to the linear textured opal glass.
