Architectural practice, The Harris Partnership were responsible for modernising the food court at the popular retail destination, Meadowhall, Sheffield. The development included a number of upgrades, one of the main focal points being the catenary feature lighting in the atrium.

After numerous successful collaborations with The Harris Partnership, including two previous catenary lighting solutions, the team approached Studiotech to assist with the detail design, supply and installation of the bespoke catenary feature lighting and additional lighting upgrades.

Working alongside the wider team which included Arcadis and Atlas, Studiotech introduced curved recessed soffit lighting, column mounted suspended and recessed downlights, linear lighting between timber slats as well as the emergency lighting. Yet the most obvious and eye-catching element is the suspended catenary lighting, seemingly floating above the dining space.

Studiotech were responsible for the detail design, supply, installation and control of the full lighting scheme. As it can be challenging to retrofit a complex lighting solution, Studiotech designed and installed a number of bespoke bracket arrangements to safely and attractively affix the catenary onto the existing structure. The result is a catenary lighting solution that serves as a striking centrepiece within the social hub of one of Sheffield’s most loved retail destinations.

The Harris Partnership team said of Studiotech’s involvement; We were delighted to work alongside Studiotech again in implementing a large scale scheme across the Oasis food court in Meadowhall. Whilst we faced many technical and logistical challenges, as often comes with large scale schemes at height, we effectively worked together to provide a solution and create the vision. Studiotech were crucial in delivering the design and we hope to work together soon in the future.
