The retail podium of this urban high-rise was expertly transformed into a vibrant amenity suite that hosts a variety of conferences, events, and social events. Indoor and outdoor areas are seamlessly integrated to create an inviting yet flexible destination for both daytime and nighttime gatherings.
A warm, modern aesthetic guides the overall design. Carefully integrated electric lighting highlights the refined material palette and brings balance to spaces with daylight from floor-to-ceiling windows and/or skylights. Layers of light, including luminous ceilings, illuminated walls, integrated accent lighting, and glowing decorative elements are carefully balanced and blended to create inviting, welcoming spaces.
The central reception and lounge area features a large, wood slat ceiling that spans across and below several skylights. Small, multicell downlights are concealed between pairs of wood slats to softly illuminate the seating below. LEDs are deeply regressed and utilize low-brightness reflectors so fixtures virtually disappear. Concealed along the top of the pairs of wood slats are linear, lensed uplights that illuminate the skylight “well” after dark. The layering of uplight and downlight reveals the warm materials and creates comfortable areas to lounge or chat.
Circulation areas feature highly-reflective, large-format, stretched fabric ceilings. Lighting is integrated within adjacent ceilings and walls, while the mirror-like effect of the ceilings expands the perceived scale of the rooms and adds visual interest.
Large meeting rooms feature asymmetric cove uplights that provide soft, indirect illumination for both in-person and video meetings. Multicell downlights are recessed in the raised gypsum ceiling and virtually disappear due to their small scale and low-brightness apertures. Perimeter screening elements feature integrated uplights that illuminate the perimeter and accentuate the warm, wood ceiling surround.
Grazing light accentuates the raw, natural texture of exposed concrete columns. Linear accent lights are integrated within each tier of wood slat screening elements to highlight their warmth and cast uplight onto ceilings. Glowing pendants illuminate tables, islands, and the reception desk, while also contributing to a hospitality-like feel in the various rooms.
This sophisticated, amenity-rich destination invites connection and collaboration. Lighting is carefully designed to reveal textures, colors, and materials, and to disappear (or be seen!) where appropriate. The space is in high demand and has helped to reinvigorate an important area of the city, proving the power of thoughtful, smart design.
