Hoare Lea Lighting Design is proud to have completed the lighting design for the new Moco Museum on Oxford Street. This project involves the adaptive reuse of a historical 1920s building, transforming it into a modern art museum. The design aims to highlight and enhance the architectural features of the building while providing optimal lighting for the artwork displayed, including pieces by Banksy, Kaws, Tracey Emin, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, and Damien Hirst.
This marks Moco Museum’s first step into the UK cultural sector, building upon success in Amsterdam and Barcelona. Moco London intends to actively contribute to the current and expanding cultural epicentre around Oxford Street and become a must-visit art museum in London for enthusiasts and art lovers alike. With a new home in the West End’s vibrant area, Moco exhibits modern and contemporary art to the broadest audience. The location of each Moco Museum is a heart-led and considered decision founded on the principle of enriching the existing cultural landscape of each neighbourhood.
The museum features a mixture of paintings, sculptures, pop art, street art, graffiti, NFTs, digital works and immersive spaces and the lighting design aims to enhance the visitor experience with a tailored lighting approach to each piece and space highlighting and enhancing the individual qualities of the exhibits. The lighting system is adaptable both physically and digitally to adapt to future exhibits.
Key design highlights:
• Flexible lighting strategy designed to adapt to different exhibition needs.
• Preserving the integrity and aesthetic of the historical 1920s building structure.
• Harmony between architectural lighting, digital display and immersive spaces.
