As part of the global and conceptual work on the bridges of the Pregolya River, a single light image of the bridges was created, taking into account the architecture of each bridge, and maintaining a comprehensive and stylistic approach in the ideas for the bridges.

Bridges as elements of urban space are not isolated objects. They serve as points of connection between territories and their semantic zoning. The idea of constructing reality by reason, as a deep influence of Kantian motives.

According to the general concept, all bridges to Kant Island have a main demarcation in a blue-turquoise shade. In a panoramic view from various embankments, this provides reinforcement and a point of attraction to the entry points to the island, as the center of the museum quarter, and also creates their visual standardization.

The subsequent bridges along the river have more classical approaches and lighting solutions in white light temperatures, with colour integration in the central span. This allows us to focus on the island bridges, but at the same time preserve the light individuality of each subsequent bridge on the river, as an object and a local point of attraction.

This work presents one of the bridges leading to the island – Medovy (de: Honigbrücke). If we briefly summarize the results of this work, we would like to emphasize the following points:

– Working with the visibility of the lighting installation, visual noise, anti-glare, the global task was to find a compromise in installation, fastenings, cable laying and the general perception of lighting on the bridge, both during the day and in the evening. In the process and search, more than one iteration was made in some parts of the structures before we managed to achieve the desired result.

– As a continuation of this task, work was done in the development and implementation of bridge navigation. It consisted of: adjusting the general scheme of the entire navigation, reducing the size of signs in general proportion to the bridge, the position of the lights and their readability with minimization of conflict with the lighting of the bridge, coordination with river shipping, setting up the entire system.

– Work with the bridge’s light modes was built through writing a semantic scenario grid, where the colour map is based on an associative connection with the surrounding nature in different periods of the year. With the use of contrasting, co-dependent or accent color schemes between the green massif around and under the bridge space. At the moment, the bridge has four main scenarios for each season and one event art mode.

– The next global work with bridges is the development, creation and integration of its own Shuno control system. Which made it possible to customize the scenario grid and control the bridge from a phone at any point from it, including from opposite embankments. In fact, the bridges were one of the first pilot projects of the system.
