The “MaBaMa” lamp is the result of an intergenerational collaboration between three designers: Makos, Baranska Design, and Marrtino Design. Its name symbolically merges the initials of all partners. This project brings together the tradition of handcrafted glassmaking with the innovative technology of 3D printing. Baranska Design, representing Generation X, has involved young designers from Generation Z in the creative process, blending extensive experience with a fresh perspective.

The lamp’s glass shade, produced using a method inspired by Venetian Murano glass, can be coloured with natural metal oxides to create unique tones or painted with water-based paints that are cured at high temperatures. This second technique allows for flexible, small-batch production in almost any colour, including RAL shades. Both colouring methods use naturally occurring substances that are environmentally safe and free from harmful chemicals.

The base of the lamp is made using FDM 3D printing technology, utilising biodegradable PLA filaments sourced from renewable materials such as cornstarch and sugarcane, as well as PLA Wood, which contains wood particles, giving it a natural, textured finish reminiscent of wood grain. Inside the fixture, there is an integrated LED module with adjustable colour temperatures (3000 K, 4000 K, 5000 K), allowing users to customise the lighting without needing additional light sources. This module is also easily replaceable, extending the lifespan of the product.

Baranska Design is committed to reducing its carbon footprint at every stage of the design and production process. The studio has replaced gas-fired kilns with electric alternatives and optimised packaging to be biodegradable and recyclable. Additionally, the packaging is designed to fit into standard bulk cartons or pallets, ensuring more efficient transport and minimising environmental impact.
