Lumeable — Reimagining Candlelight

Lumeable is a new generation of LED candle products that re-examines one of the oldest light sources through contemporary technology, material intelligence, and optical design. Rather than imitating flame through movement or spectacle, Lumeable focuses on the qualities of candlelight itself: depth, warmth, irregularity, and stillness.

At the heart of each candle is a proprietary light engine developed by Studio Waldemeyer. A transparent circuit board carries a matrix of ultra-compact LEDs, selectively coated with phosphor and paired with carefully tuned diffusion layers. This construction allows light to emerge from within the volume, rather than from a visible point source, creating a soft, volumetric glow that feels embedded in the material.

Unlike conventional LED candles that rely on mechanical flicker or animated effects, Lumeable’s light behaviour is deliberately restrained. Subtle variations in intensity and colour temperature evoke the quiet instability of a real flame, without overt movement. The result is a calm, atmospheric light that feels closer to firelight than to an electronic simulation.

The candle bodies are made from hand-blown glass, each form designed to work optically with the internal light engine. Thickness, curvature, and surface finish are tuned to shape the light, producing depth and shadow rather than uniform brightness. When switched off, the objects read as simple, sculptural vessels; when illuminated, they reveal an inner presence that appears discovered rather than manufactured.

Lumeable is designed for domestic interiors, hospitality, and contemplative spaces where real candles are often restricted for safety reasons. The products are rechargeable, low-voltage, and energy-efficient, offering the emotional qualities of candlelight without heat, smoke, or open flame.

Beyond the individual object, Lumeable represents an approach to lighting that bridges craft and electronics. It brings together hand-made glass, custom hardware, and authored light behaviour to create an object where technology recedes, and atmosphere comes forward.

Rather than replacing the candle, Lumeable asks a different question: what happens when light is treated not as an effect, but as a material in its own right?
