The existing lighting at Hilton Park Lane was quite tired, characterized by strings of filament lamps strung across each balcony. Elektra was tasked with improving and enhancing this lighting scheme. We developed a solution that maintained a connection to the balconies while incorporating an addressable RGBW lighting profile. Coupled with a control system from ECS, this gives us the ability to select colors for events—red for Remembrance Sunday, green for St. Patrick’s Day, and so on, totaling around 20 different occasions.

Additionally, we introduced moving effects to the facade, a feature not seen in London before. For Pride, the entire facade transforms into a swirling rainbow of colors; for Christmas, we created a snowfall effect, with cold white flakes cascading down the facade and forming drifts.

The iconic Hilton Park Lane deserved a tailored approach to refreshing its facade lighting scheme. We did not want to settle for a mediocre outcome; instead, we sought a solution that would be perfect for a building with such historical significance in London’s skyline. Tryka assisted us by developing a custom profile, allowing our vision for the project to come to life. The ideal light output and the custom-made width of the neon-type LED product allow various colours and patterns to pop, creating a perfect balance with the surrounding area.

Numerous hours spent on mock-ups at both day and night allowed us to refine and design the correct solution. When it came to setting the variety of scenes mentioned above, we collaborated with hotel management to ensure they were comfortable with our proposal. All that effort resulted in a lighting scheme that not only complements the recognizable building but also bridges the past with the future.
