Hsinchu City used to be the key to Taiwan’s glass industry. In order to revive the glory of Hsinchu City’s glass culture, Hsinchu Park holds large cultural events related to glass every two years. The “Glass Garden” landscape installation art is created as part of the Hsinchu Glass Art Festival. It is a publicly accessible artwork located at the entrance corridor and endpoint of Hsinchu Park, illuminating the dark park in the evening. With its large glass art light installations integrated into the urban public space, the artwork has gained popularity among the citizens and has enhanced the park’s nighttime usage, contributing to the vibrancy of the city. It is currently permanently housed in Hsinchu Park.

“Glass Garden” comprises 300 hand-blown dual-layered waterdrop-shaped glass. The glass lamps on the corridor are arranged symmetrically, while the glass lamps on the plaza are displayed in a spiral fashion as a wind symbol. In addition to the physical viewing experience, interactive technology has been added to the installation; by scanning the QR code to initiate a specific page, viewers can participate in the lighting changes of the installation by making a wish on the platform and experience the glass-making process online. This approach promotes the art of glass making and bridges the gap between the craft and its audience.
