At the heart of Barcelona, during the magical Christmas season, the city transforms into a stage where tradition and innovation intertwine in a unique visual spectacle. Inspired by childhood symbols and the festivity of the Three Wise Men, this project turns public space into a place of wonder and connection, awakening the imagination and festive spirit of both residents and visitors.

The concept is based on interaction and nostalgia, evoking childhood games and puzzles through monumental luminous structures. More than just sculptures, these pieces invite the public to rediscover the joy of play and contemplation, creating an immersive experience that blends light, color, and reflections. In this way, the project not only enhances the city’s beauty but also fosters the creation of shared memories and strengthens the sense of community.

Located on the iconic Gran Via, one of Barcelona’s main arteries, the project consists of the installation of eight luminous monuments that reinvent the urban landscape during Christmas. Each structure, approximately 2.90 metres in height and width, is designed as a three-dimensional puzzle that combines modern materials with innovative technology.

The structural base of each piece is made of durable steel, while the translucent methacrylate surfaces and dichroic filters generate visual effects that change with light and perspective. During the day, these surfaces capture and reflect natural light, creating a dynamic interplay of colors and shapes. At nightfall, white LED lighting highlights the contours of the sculptures, attracting the attention of pedestrians and cyclists while intensifying the festive atmosphere.

In addition to these main installations, the classic street lamps along Gran Via are transformed into decorative pillars adorned with cascading strings of vibrant lights, enhancing the enchanting Christmas ambiance. Each luminous star placed at the top of the structures adopts a specific colour, establishing a symbolic connection with the festivity and the world of gifts and toys.

Strategically positioned at the busiest intersections of the avenue, the sculptures aim not only to maximize visibility but also to encourage public interaction. Visitors can explore the shapes, capture images, and share their experience on social media, extending the Christmas spirit beyond the city streets.

The choice of materials and technology is not only guided by aesthetic criteria but also creates a dialogue between the installation and its surroundings. Light, both natural and artificial, becomes an active element within the composition, ensuring that the visual experience evolves throughout the day.

This project goes beyond urban decoration; its purpose is to transform public space into an artistic and social meeting point where tradition meets modernity. In this way, Barcelona celebrates Christmas with a proposal that, through light and design, awakens magic, emotion, and a sense of community in all who experience it.
