Located in the heart of bustling Salford, Eden at New Bailey stands as one of the UK’s most environmentally advanced buildings, purpose-built for businesses committed to sustainability. This cutting-edge development, conceived by architecture firm Make, serves as a testament to eco-conscious innovation. A defining feature of the building is Europe’s largest green wall, which is not only visually striking but also plays a critical role in improving urban air quality, enhancing biodiversity, regulating temperatures, and providing valuable thermal benefits. Fed entirely by harvested rainwater, this green wall aligns seamlessly with the building’s overarching environmental goals.

The design of the building’s social hub and mezzanine floor was created by SpaceInvader, with the objective of fostering an active, collaborative community space. The lighting design, an essential component of this vision, needed to support a diverse range of activities, creating dynamic environments for both focused work and relaxation. To meet this challenge, Light Forms developed bespoke lighting solutions tailored to each zone’s unique needs. Custom designs were created using the Serpentine, Nova 62, and Lightrod 80 fixtures to establish the varied atmospheres required for the space.

Lighting played a pivotal role in enhancing the building’s aesthetic impact, particularly with the sculptural installation on the ground floor. Here, the Lyra fixture was creatively housed within a custom cardboard tube, becoming a striking centrepiece that sets the tone for an impressive and welcoming entrance.

Further elevating the human-centric experience, the majority of the building’s lighting features tuneable white LEDs, allowing the colour temperature to adjust throughout the day in alignment with natural circadian rhythms. This thoughtful integration promotes occupant well-being and productivity by supporting the body’s natural light cycles. Additionally, all architectural lighting fixtures are equipped with DALI dimming technology, providing precise control over light levels and energy consumption, further reinforcing the building’s commitment to sustainability.

Eden, New Bailey represents a bold approach to environmental and human-focused design, where every detail, from the green wall to the lighting scheme, is meticulously crafted to create a space that is as functional as it is sustainable.
