The Cu-Pip design originated from a desire to create a simple, pared-back spike light – one that maintains precise focus with ease.

Frustrated by traditional top-heavy designs that consist of luminaire heads mounted on adjustable brackets which often slip or subside in the soil, we sought to design out moving parts prone to seizing or losing focus due to accidental encounters with groundspeople or other users which may compromise the lighting scheme.

Simplicity, durability, and minimal points of failure were key drivers. Equally important was minimising the overall manufacturing process and resource use.

This led the design to draw inspiration from the established Pipien product, building on its robust architecture and shared key components. The Cu-Pip’s lighting module is suspended within a carefully sliced outer housing positioned at the user’s preferred depth, supported by petal-shaped silicone gaskets which simultaneously provide a water egress route and galvanic isolation.

The outer housing, machined from a single copper pipe, integrates both the ground spike and anti-glare snoot into a single artifact. Left untreated, the copper develops a natural patina, forming a protective layer while blending harmoniously with its surroundings.

With its natural finish, compact form, and elegant cable exit, the Cu-Pip almost disappears in any landscape. The internal LED module can be specified with a range of colour temperatures and site-changeable optics to hone the beam angle and glare control.
