Our design narrative for Club Bâtard focuses on creating a cohesive and immersive lighting experience that is functional and easy-to-operate for various venues through the lighting control system. This allows us to curate the atmosphere of the three-story wine cellar and the accompanying restaurants. Through a collaborative design process with the client and lead designers, we are able to achieve a thoughtful integration of lighting design. Our aim is to create a memorable and captivating dining experience that delights the senses and provides guests with a truly immersive and unforgettable journey through the world of wine.

The three-story wine cellar, serving as the focal point of Club Bâtard, is one of the largest in Asia, connecting the different dining experiences and setting the tone for the overall lighting concept. To achieve a harmonious and seamless transition between the spaces, we propose a lighting scheme that not only showcases the individual characteristics of each restaurant but also unifies them under a cohesive theme in collaboration with Joyce Wang Studio and Sensis World.

For Le Clos, the all-day-dining restaurant, the aim is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the casual dining experience. Soft ambient lighting combined with strategically placed accent lights will highlight the interior decor of geometric gestures and refined details, creating a welcoming environment for guests to enjoy their meals throughout the day.

Transitioning to the French dining room Bâtard, a more elegant and sophisticated lighting scheme is featured to enhance the luxurious and refined setting. All dimmable architectural and decorative lighting fixtures create romantic scenes while ensuring that the focus remains on the exquisite culinary creations and upscale decor of the space, such as concealed lighting on wall coverings, accent lights on custom mosaics and artistic elements.

Moving on to Hop Sze, the lighting design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese elements while incorporating modern lighting techniques to elevate the dining experience. Downlights ceiling slot echo large lanterns with an orientalist interpretation, creating a visually stunning ambiance for guests to indulge in authentic Chinese cuisine. In contrast, whisky bar OBE, located opposite, features a highlight in the design with the wave structure of the whisky bottle display, creating an intimate bar where the visual impact is bold yet refined.

All three spaces are anchored by a dramatic three-story glass-fronted wine cellar, creating moments of discovery as you move through the club. Lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall immersive atmosphere by carefully selecting the right luminaire combinations, colour temperature and intensity, thanks to low UV and heat generated LED technology. We apply concealed linear LEDs throughout Le Clos’ Cellar to create an impressive look, then create pockets of interest by using individual puck lights to illuminate individual jewellery vitrines of wines in Bâtard’s level. Reaching to the top of the cellar, we apply light and shadow to the sculptural timber trees for displaying the finest champagne bottles. A dynamic and visually engaging environment that allows guests to appreciate the cellars freely and select their wines.
