The Atis flagship store on Regent Street marks the sixth collaboration between There’s Light, the brand and interior designers Daytrip Studio, showcasing harmonious blend of refined design and practicality in sync with Atis’ plant-forward philosophy. The store is housed within a Portland stone façade, featuring expansive windows that reveal an impressive 5-metre ceiling height. The interior exudes a calm and subdued aesthetic, with soft yellow tones and perforated galvanised steel elements that allow the vibrant food and produce to take centre stage.

The lighting design reflects this understated elegance by creating layered illumination to enhance and celebrate the space’s design qualities and culinary offerings. A neutral colour temperature of 3500K was selected to align with Atis’ youthful, contemporary ethos, ensuring the lighting harmonises with the natural materials and colours throughout the space.

Central to the concept was the creation of a bespoke “canopy of light,” a standout feature designed as a perforated steel-wrapped linear lighting element. This canopy not only establishes a new ceiling datum line, but also by separating the perforated steel above the linear lighting element, the light emitted can interact with the metal, creating a subtle dynamism. The space between the two elements allows light to pass through and around the perforations of the steel wrapping, casting shadows or creating glowing outlines along the suspended metal as one’s perspective of the fixtures changes as they move through the space. This interaction further enhances the illusion that the metal is floating, as the light beneath it creates a sense of depth and separation. We worked in association with Fabricate Lighting to bring this vision to life, producing the distinctive fixture that ties seamlessly with the store’s material palette. The collaboration extended to elegant wall lights flanking the windows in the same language as the ceiling fixtures, enhancing the overall design cohesion.

To accentuate specific features, high-powered spotlights were strategically employed, while low-brightness linear fixtures highlighted other details without competing for prominence with the canopy design. An integrated linear lighting detail was also added to the perforated galvanised steel wall panels, lending depth and sophistication to the elevation where the menu is displayed, while simultaneously softening the contrast between the brightly lit menu and its backdrop. This feature complements a nearby large screen showcasing Atis branding and marketing content, further elevating the modern, immersive dining experience. Below the branding and menu display, an integrated shelf detail provides functional task lighting, emphasising the store’s expansive length and width while offering practicality. This thoughtful detail adds form and function, enhancing the customer and staff experience equitably.

The entire lighting system is Casambi-enabled, offering advanced automation and control capabilities. This setup allows the Atis team to manage lighting scenes effortlessly, simplifying daily operations and maintaining the store’s inviting and bold atmosphere. This technological integration supports flexibility and adaptability, delivering a cohesive lighting for both the design and the operational needs of the space.
