Amaro Lucano is one of the most recognised Italian liqueurs, produced by Amaro Lucano S.p.A., a family-owned company based in Pisticci, Basilicata. The company’s historic headquarters in Pisticci needed upgraded lighting to return it to its original splendour.

Lighting designers Lighting And created the scheme for the cellar, with the aim to excite visitors with stunning lighting while showcasing the brand and creating a common thread with the museum and shop environments of the site. Another key goal was to create different light scenarios which transform the environment for different uses, while maintaining the original architecture and sacredness of the space.

Lighting And specified architectural lighting products to meet the design brief and sustainability goals; the aim was to use at least one product with plastic-free packaging, and formalighting offer this as part of its mission to eliminate plastics from all product packaging, choosing responsible materials with the objective of zero waste to landfills.

The development of the lighting design revolved around the reference of the belly of the whale in the famous Walt Disney cartoon Pinocchio. The focus was creating the right mix of accent lights on the structure and details, controlling the amount of light which was set at a warm temperature of 2700K.

To meet the requirements of the multifunctionality of the space, it was essential to increase the number of fittings, utilising formalighting’s Zero 33 Low Voltage luminaire, Cobra Linealuce, and Zero 33 Surface luminaire.

Lighting and also develop a solution to install Teatro 12 Surface luminaire , particular products for jewelry industry, onto a false ceiling. This created accent lights on the barrels, conferences and effects on the load-bearing beams. Dynamic, colour illuminations have been added to maintain a common thread with the company stores and give a touch of modernity to the traditional cellar.

Although the multi-functionality of the space requires different levels of light and therefore many different products, the approach to the sustainability of the project incorporated the use of an automation system. this system controls the amount of light used, ensuring the least output and use of products possible while maintaining the lighting standards.

To future-proof the exhibition lighting, fixtures feature interchangeable led modules which can be upgraded and maintained without the use of tools.

The result is a transformation of the cellar back to its original majesty, with modern upgrades which improve light quality, efficiency and sustainability. The lighting design has helped to bring the location of this renowned, traditional liqueur into a contemporary space which encompasses the brand’s colours and style.
