At Aesop’s new store in Beijing’s Taikoo Li Sanlitun, our lighting design draws inspiration from the “winding upward” concept, echoing the grandeur of the Great Wall of China. This approach not only pays homage to the historical significance of the Great Wall but also aligns with Aesop’s philosophy of blending cultural elements into their store designs.

Illuminated Amber Glass Bricks

Central to our design is the innovative illumination of amber-colored glass bricks. By lighting these bricks from both the interior and exterior, we achieve a luminous effect that renders them transparent and evenly lit. This technique creates a captivating ambiance, enhancing the visual impact of the space and inviting customers into a warm, glowing environment.

Layered Lighting Strategy

To ensure a balanced and versatile environment, we’ve implemented a layered lighting strategy that integrates ambient, task, and accent lighting. This multi-dimensional approach ensures each area is purposefully lit, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

Warm and Inviting Atmosphere

We have meticulously selected warm lighting tones to create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. This warmth beautifully contrasts with the store’s sleek, modern design, enhancing the sensory experience and making the space feel inviting.

Indirect Lighting Techniques

Utilizing indirect lighting, we produce a soft, diffused glow that adds depth and serenity to the store. This technique creates a calming oasis, offering a retreat from the bustling city outside.

Concentric Circles Concept

The lighting design centers around a stunning antique crystal chandelier, serving as the focal point. Strategically placed downlights are arranged in a precise pattern, radiating outward from the chandelier. This setup ensures that the chandelier remains the visual anchor, drawing the eye and enhancing the store’s overall ambiance.

These lighting concepts and strategies transform Aesop’s store into a captivating and engaging space. The lighting not only accentuates the architectural and design elements but also creates a memorable experience for every visitor, embodying the essence of Aesop’s brand. The store’s design, centered on the theme of “concentration,” seamlessly blends historical inspiration with modern elegance, making it a standout destination in Beijing.
