One of the most ambitious projects this year was the renovation of the lighting system for the Yerevan TV Tower (Television and Radio Broadcasting Network of Armenia), the fourth tallest TV tower in Europe and one of the city’s main landmarks. The goal was to create an interactive media art installation that combines the energy of the city and its residents, transforming the tower into a “Beacon of Unity.”
The concept involved transforming the tower from a passive lighting object into a living work of light art. We developed various scenarios for the “life” of the TV tower: an everyday light installation reflecting the character and mood of the city, a laser show visible from various points in Yerevan, and interactive scenarios where the tower responds to people’s activity through a uniquely designed app. Each user can choose the type of laser, color, and light message, sending their “light impulse” into the universe and making the TV tower a symbol of unity.
The technical implementation required working at a height of several hundred meters, precise adjustment of optics, integration of laser systems, and real-time control of scenarios. Safety, weather conditions, and synchronization between different lighting systems were taken into account. We combined engineering precision with progressive technologies and artistic vision to create the first Armenian interactive light project of this scale and one of the largest in the world where everyone can participate.
Statement of Impact: The project inspires residents and visitors to Yerevan to actively engage with the urban space, fosters a sense of unity and pride in the city, and stimulates interest in culture and technology. The TV tower has become a symbol of inclusion and co-creation, demonstrating that innovative lighting design can not only decorate but also unite the community, creating a unique emotional and cultural experience.
