The restaurant where “more is more”
Countless layers of light have been implemented to accentuate all the design elements and create a sexy, alluring athmosphere where dinning becomes an experience.
Balancing all the different lighting elements and create a visual hierarchy was an absolute challenge. Backlit agate floor, edgelit eglomise glass artwork pieces, feature Buddha wall, cherry tree walkway, dozens of antiques construct an enthralling environment where the mind wonders. Lighting is key embedded in, literally, every element.
Client brief was to ensure that everything is captured and brought to life.
Entering the space, one comes across the vast bar and opposite is the feature wall with 8 Buddha statues sitting on floating shelves. Looking into the restaurant, dominating the space at the end, are the two enormous authentic Chinese vases that frame the entrance to the private dining room.
In the Sakura Room (PDR), the experience intesifies with ceiling and walls being covered in edgelit eglomise glass art which depicts a Japanese themed landscape with the focus point being a bespoke wooden temple. Dozens of miniature fittings were used in different positions to accentuate the different elements and antiques of the temple. RGBW is used in the sky glass ceiling to create a dramatic effect from afternoon to evening.
The most challenging element in a room fully dressed in mirrors and glass surfaces, was carefully locating the light fixtures to avoid specular reflections whilst ensuring that all artwork, antiques and temple are perfectly lit. Working closely with the architect to adapt the glass frames accordingly was a key element.
The second biggest challenge was the Cherry Orchard with the client wanting to experience the sun’s dappling effect whilst walking through an enchanted orchard. We worked closely with S2 Events and incorporated small spotlights into the three trunks that uplit and saturated the blossoms with bespoke pink lenses. For the dappling lighting effect, spotlights were installed in the ceiling that followed organically the cherry trees installation.
All in all, a very challenging but wildy creative project, Ivy Asia Mayfair is an eye catcher.
