Rochdale Riverside is a new retail and leisure destination which was developed by Genr8 Developments in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council as part of their £250 million regeneration of the town centre. The design was led by architects TP Bennett and landscape architects Planit-IE.

Illuminating a public realm can have a dramatic impact on the atmosphere of the area; at Riverside, Planit IE’s public realm concept has sensitively illuminated the walkways and floor space. From the bespoke column fixtures to the recessed in-ground illumination surrounding planters and through the walkways, the lighting concept has been carefully considered, creating a playful yet functional space.

Studiotech were introduced to the public realm scheme having successfully worked with the Planit IE team in the past, and was responsible for the full external lighting solution.

Studiotech supplied tapered, wood pole columns complete with bespoke mounting from which OSRAM Traxon Propoint fixtures are fixed to. This is the first known project that has utilised Propoint fixtures in this way.

The overall lighting scheme brings together each element of the public realm, flowing harmoniously between buildings and allowing the visitors to enjoy the destination all day and throughout the darker hours.
