The tranquil movement of sound and water. Element explores the intrinsic interaction of wave patterns and their embodied harmonics.

Element, a sculptural lighting installation by Nulty Bespoke, captures the serene dance of sound and water by depicting delicate droplets flowing across a body of water.

Suspended above a water-filled mirror and illuminated from above, waves of light ripple through the piece’s handcrafted glass droplets, creating an illusion of endless depth. This interplay of elements produces subtle flickers and shimmers that echo the fluid interaction of a quiet scene from nature – the moment when light and water seamlessly merge.

Element is Nulty Bespoke’s most ambitious work to date and saw the team push boundaries by exploring material-freedom techniques. The individual components are crafted in the UK by skilled glassworkers who use a controlled randomness method. As the molten glass becomes incredibly fine during this process, the technique requires exceptional deftness and precision to manipulate the playful form of each piece.

The bespoke installation is made from recycled glass and then finished in a state-of-the-art electric furnace. The transition to electricity is part of a wider movement across the glassmaking industry to transition away from gas-fired furnaces and adopt more sustainable manufacturing practices.
